Beverage Service Policy at the
Margaret Mitchell House
The Margaret Mitchell House & Museum (MMH) retains a liquor license, and by law must provide any liquor, beer and/or wine used at any function held at the Margaret Mitchell House & Museum.
- There is a $1,500 beverage minimum for all Saturday rentals. The minimum is $10,000 for New Year’s Eve and any other holiday that MMH is regularly closed.
- MMH will not serve alcoholic beverages to any guest who is under the legal drinking age or anyone who appears to be intoxicated. Rental clients are expected to assist management in behavior control of guests.
- Law prohibits donated beverages.
- MMH provides plastic cups. Glassware must be rented.
Cash Bar Service
For a cash bar, the user pays only the cost of the bartenders (see below), which is due no later than two weeks prior to the event date.
Host Bar Service By the Drink
The rental client pays the cost of bartenders (listed below) as well as the cost of the liquor, beer and/or wine poured. The rental client will be billed for an estimate of $5 per person, per hour prior to the event (if there is no beverage minimum for that evening). The balance will be adjusted based on actual consumption, following the event.
Host Bar Service By the Hour
Available with the listed beverages only (no special orders). Final estimated guest count and beverage charges are due to MMH two weeks prior to the event. (Adjustments can be made following the event for fluctuations in actual guest count.)

*Please note: Beverage service is subject to a 15% service charge and 11% State of Georgia Liquor Sales Tax. There is a $4.00 per person charge for children.
Bartenders and Bar Backs
Bartenders, by law, must be provided by the MMH. Each bartender is $140 for four hours (four hour minimum). For each additional hour, there is a fee of $25.00 per bartender per hour or any portion of an hour. One bartender is required per 75 guests. Events with guests of 200 or more require bar backs. Each bar back is $125.00 for four hours (four hour minimum). For every 100 guests added, an additional bar back is required.
Special Orders
MMH will be glad to special order alcohol for an event. The client must pay for special-ordered beverages in advance. The order will be placed with a licensed distributor. Prices will be quoted before the order is placed and will be based on the distributors cost plus MMH cost and handling fees. Following the event, unused bottles can not be returned to the distributor for reimbursement and CAN NOT be removed from the property.

Full bar set-up includes tonic water, club soda, cranberry and grapefruit juices, bloody mary mix, vermouth, triple sec, lemons and limes.
